The Predator’s 2000 Peak Generator is a lightweight model that can provide up to 1600 running Watts. This means it can power multiple smaller appliances or a single power hungry appliance like electric kettle or a space heater. It has an optional parallel kit which is RV-ready and can generate power up to 4,000 watts. The 2000 Peak Generator from Predator makes use of inverter technology that produces clean and stable power ideal for sensitive electronics and devices. The generator produces more power while consuming less fuel.

Optional Parallel Kit enables to connect 2 Predator 2000 units to get 4000-watt combined peak power.

Essentially, Predator 2000 is a cheaper alternative to Honda eu2000i and Yamaha EF2000iSv2. All 3 models feature the same power ratings. Yamaha is powered by 79-cc motor just like Predator, while Honda boasts a larger 98.5 cc engine.

The portable generator is built very sturdily and is housed in a high-impact protective casing. The unit can run for around 6.5 hours, it has an inbuilt low-oil indicator and is equipped with an electronic overload protection.

The portable generator unit is quite easy to operate, although, it needs some priming to start up. This may be a problem especially if the weather is cold. Nevertheless, the functional and unique design of the 2000 Peak Generator and its compact and lightweight build makes it a perfect accessory for camping, boating, RVing and other outdoor activities.

Selecting the Best Generator for Your RV

When going on a camping trip, varied people have different views on how they should be camping out and what gear is required. Some people like traveling light, cooking over an open fire and sleeping in tents, while others like relative comfort, while experiencing the joys of camping at the same time.

If you are one of those who likes their comforts like a stove, refrigerator, television, music, etc. then RV camping is ideal for you. And, if you want to take your RV into the countryside, then you require a portable source of power to run all your appliances and devices. This is where a portable generator comes in real handy.

Selecting an ideal camp portable generator is not an easy task. If you don’t do your due diligence, you can end up with a generator that is bulky, extremely noisy and guzzles a lot of fuel. This can be rather bad and completely ruin the entire camping experience. So, when you’re considering buying a portable generator for your RV, here are a few things that you must consider.

Standard vs Inverter Generators

A good portable generator must be able to power the various electrical appliances and devices you have in your RV. Unstable power sources can damage sensitive appliances and equipment. Inverter generators produce sine waves and they are a source of clean and safe power akin to the wall electricity available in your home. Buying an inverter generator is a safer and a better choice compared to a conventional generator, especially if you will be using it to charge your delicate devices and electronics.

Type of Fuel

The fuel that you use to run your portable generator is an important factor to consider. The various types of fuels used for generators are:

Gas

Gasoline is cheaper than other fuels and is budget-friendly too. Gas is very easy to use and is available readily. The drawback of gasoline is that it does not have a long shelf life. If you want to store it for several months, be sure to add a fuel stabilizer.

Diesel

Generators that run on diesel are very fuel-efficient. They are easy to run and maintain. However, there are no portable diesel generators available on the US market today. The only models that are available are generally very expensive and very heavy.

Propane

Unlike other kinds of fuel, propane has an indefinite shelf-life and can be stored for a very long time. Compared to other types of generators, the ones that run on propane are quite silent.

Solar Power

New type of generators that run on solar power are entering the consumer market. They are very silent in operation and most importantly, they do not have any emissions and are eco-friendly. Solar powered generators are ideal for powering low-wattage devices safely. As this technology improves, we will surely see more powerful solar generators capable of powering more electricity-hungry devices and appliances.

Dual Fuel

These kinds of generators run on both gas and propane. The dual fuel capacity of these generators makes them very convenient to operate in the case that you run out of either of the fuels. If you would like to investigate this option, please check out our buyer’s guide for selecting the best dual-fuel generator.

Power Requirements

The power required by your RV mainly depends upon the electronic devices and appliances you plan to power using the portable generator. A generator that is rated at 1000 Watts is ideal for a small camping trip where you want to power small devices like lights, small tools and charge your smartphone. If you want to power larger appliances like a refrigerator, electric grill, air conditioner, television, etc., then you need a generator with higher power rating.

Noise Level

Generators are usually measured according to the noise they produce i.e. in decibels. Generators that produce 60 decibels or lower are considered to be the best. As the power rating of the portable generator increases, the noise levels also will increase. So, be prepared to deal with more noise if you are opting for a more powerful generator.

Portability

Your generator should be portable enough to make traveling and carrying it around easier. Portable generators are not too bulky and heavy and can be easily moved around. Many portable models have adjustable handles and wheels for easy movement and convenient handling.

If the power rating of the generator increases, they are usually bulkier as they have more parts, which also makes them heavier. Such generators become quite difficult to move around. To get more power and also retain the portability of the generator, you can connect 2 small generators for twice the amount of power and this will also facilitate easy movement of the generators when required.

Fuel Efficiency

Another important factor to consider is the fuel efficiency of the generator. The best generators have the capability of adjusting their engine speed as per the load applied. So, when light appliances are connected to the generator, the speed is automatically lowered by the engine and this results in reduced fuel consumption. Only when it is very necessary, the engine should be run in the full-throttle mode.

User-Friendly Features

A portable generator should be user-friendly and some features make the generator very easy to operate such as low oil shutdown, which prevents any damage if the oil level is low, a fuel gauge to monitor the level of gas or oil, LCD display, wireless remote start that allows you to start the generator from far away, etc. Extra features like these can make the portable generator more convenient to use.
